#32 Virtua Fighter 4 PS2 \\ Vanessa Lewis - VF4 Kumite 5th kyu - to VF1 model unlocked! : D
Playing Vanessa Lewis in Kumite mode of Virtua Fighter 4 on PS2!
Starting off at 5th kyu here, as I'd played her a bit in Kumite before. ( https://youtu.be/2Wl3P2NLiqc?list=PLZO3OPzPjIzN86kSFcGZFTCE_fuPspasz&t=4153 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBhBrdkkePs&list=PLZO3OPzPjIzN86kSFcGZFTCE_fuPspasz&index=8&t=1030s )
0:00 - start
0:50 - checking her status and costume
2:55 - into Kumite!
26:25 - I take note of her flip kick move, which I'll be abusing a *lot* ;}
31:06 - 2nd kyu, and here I hit a wall for a *while*
43:25 - Why am I having such trouble with throws lately?
43:43 - I finally realize I was letting my ring finger dangle down onto the Kick button when pressing other buttons, so when trying to throw I was accidentally hitting G+P+K instead of the throw command G+P; playing Vanessa helped me realize this because pressing G+P+K with her switches between her Muay Thai and Defensive styles (with most other characters in VF4 it usually does nothing apparent). Correcting this problem would help me finally dig my way out of 2nd kyu!
1:05:15 - I find a useful sequence: flip-kick (G+K), punch flurry...
1:08:30 - What's even more useful than that is flip-kick, punch flurry, throw ;D! This is *killer* in VF4, nerfed to blazes in VF10th, somewhat restored in VF5, and only conditionally and partially useful in VF5FS
1:09:10 - Promotion to 1st dan! That means I've unlocked Vanessa's "VF1" character model!
1:15:20 - Googly-eyed Sarah? 3rd dan "Roadkill" CPU character
1:22:30 - Hey I've got more costume colors now, too
1:24:25 - Hold P+K after character select to load in with the VF1 model! : D
1:25:54 - Oh man her VF1 model looks so cool in this lighting, the skin color is a better match for her VF4 skin color, too (vs her 10th Anniversary VF1 model)
As I will find--you'll see this in the the following videos--VF4 is peak Vanessa. : ) After this they take away her Muay Thai style (giving it to Brad Burns in VF4:Evo), replacing it with a much more generic, much slower, maybe semi Vale Tudo "Offensive" style (Vale Tudo is what her Defensive (default) style is called on the Character Select screen), stop her flip-kick from hitting crouching characters, and throwing standing characters off-balance (although briefly it does actually stagger in VF5), prevent her from stepping back to style switch mostly safely at the start of a round (VF10th; fortunately in 5 and 5SP you can style-switch between rounds) slow throws in general (starting in VF5), bleach her skin (or make it surprisingly dark, in VF10th), and, in VF4:Evo, take away her starting costume, replacing it with something much baggier, and almost identical to her sub-costume. ; P Without Muay Thai she can never again compete with the faster characters in terms of striking speed.
In VF4 Vanessa is supreeeeeeme! : ) Well anyway she's really good and fun to play. She was the first VF character I really got into; I wasn't much good with her back in the day; it's nice to come back to her and start finding some tricks. :)
Oh yeah, also note that in VF4, her eyes are green (4'55). By the time we get to Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, they've for some reason turned brown. : P (Okay so my own green eyes may look upon this with a little bias. : PP)
