#34 SUPER MARIO ALLSTARS - FULL PLAYTHROUGH (Super Mario Bros 3) - Beating My Snes Games
Here is my full playthrough of Super Mario Allstars part three: Super Mario Bros 3, done live on IGTV.
Follow me on instagram @CabinSNES_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.
REVIEW:
-With my brother being 5 years the elder, new SNES game purchases were firmly his decision whether I liked it or not! My birthday offered the rare opportunity for a solo purchase & If you ever needed an early example of my obsession for suffocating in nostalgia, then spending my 9th birthday money on a game that's little more than a tarted up compilation of the same 8-bit Mario titles I'd already completed tells it's own story. Much to my brothers outrage, Mario Allstars is what my birthday green went on.
As a fairly weathered player of the original NES trilogy, I have to admit that despite the more visually appealing 16-bit sparkle the SMW engine makeover gives it, the gameplay appears completely unaffected.
The main difference being the ability to save progress and continue indefinitely from the start of each world. There's no denying this renders the challenge considerbly tamer but for many, removing the heartbreak of 'game-over' meaning 'game-over' is probably very welcome.
Having already beat the original trilogy warpless last year as part of the NES challenge, this time I opted for quick exits by using warps. The only game new to me is Lost Levels, which of course is the original Mario 2, released for the Famicom Disk System and deemed too difficult for Western audiences before release, hence why we got 'Doki Doki Panic' as Mario 2 instead.
Tho the Allstars port does tone down the difficulty by allowing infinite continues from the level you died instead of restarting the world as per the original, the difficulty is still remarkable in the final 2 worlds. The SMW makeover is to blame for treating the gameplay like its SMW' when it's anything but! The mechanics for bouncing off everything from Koopas to the infuriating springs is miles apart & couldn't be anymore unforgiving! Right from your first poison mushroom to the catalogue of bullshit jumps, unpredictable wind, Kaizo blocks & springs that send you into orbit, you quickly learn that this time Miyamoto wasnt fucking around!
Unsurprisingly Lost Levels took me the longest and caused me the most pain however I'm very pleased to finally say its beat!
