#27 FINAL FIGHT 2 - PLAYTHROUGH (Stage 2 till end) - Beating My Snes Games
Here is my playthrough of Soul Blazer on done live on IGTV. Due to space restrictions I was only able to record stage 2 onwards of the playthrough.
Follow me on instagram @CabinSNES_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.
REVIEW
-Why start with 2? Where's your PAL cart? what sort of twisted chaos are you playing with Cabisnes? Well before you unleash a full force Hagger backdrop on me, hear me out!
While the original Final Fight of course saw a port to the Snes, it famously opted to remove Guy as a playable character, only to then re-release the game, with Guy (creatively titled: 'Final Fight Guy'), at the expense of Cody! In other words a Sprite swap! Combined with failing to include a 2 player mode in either game, it's fair to say the Snes ports are flawed. Thankfully Sega managed an arcade perfect release for the MegaCD, so that's where my chump change went, all for that glorious 2 player mode and right to select Guy & Cody, of which I choose neither and end up playing single player mode as Hagger! 😃, still it's nice to know I can!
There would be no need for consoles to lock horns for Final Fight 2 & 3 however, since Capcom chose to produce these exclusively for the Snes, surpassing even Arcade versions! While both titles did receive a PAL release and my own OCDs ordinarily accepting only PAL carts first (its nostalgia I guess, plus I run games at native NTSC speeds anyway), fact remains the PAL ones dont turn up often, they cost alot & heck the NTSC carts were in a store one day and I bottled it, so shoot me!... hold on, that's right, no one cares but me 😂 phew!
Okay so having not beaten FF1 (dont worry Sega is coming), it's hard to compare but I will say that aside from a very generous life & continue count, plus additional lives awarded for easily achievable point markers, the gameplay is still remarkably easy. Most enemies offer little more than their backsides on a plate, which with the very limited moveset, all mapped to one button, doesnt make for a very challenging game. However the rolecall of baddies is characterful nonetheless & boss fights, while tame, are enjoyable, tho Shadow/Grenade man is an asshole!
Its very much a recycle of the first, in a way the far superior Streets of Rage sequel was not!
Beaten on my 1st ever playthrough, perhaps I should have tried again on the harder mode, alas theres still plenty of hard games to come!
