3D Polygon Engine #3 - Blue & Red: Dual colored-light sources
2022-11-27. More Platonic solids. This time shaded with two light sources, one red, and one blue. They are pointing directly opposite each other, horizontally, so that no blue or red light shines on the same flat surface.
The polygons are flat-shaded, also known as "Lambert shading" (from the old-school demo scene) based on Lambertian reflectance -- which means a surface with diffuse (ideal "matte") reflectance. In other words, the brightness appears the same regardless of the angle of view -- there are no specular highlights when the light source reflects uniquely towards your eye producing a bright spot. This was the most common polygon shading before texture mapping.
Fun fact: these surfaces are being texture mapped by the GPU; the single color is due to the fact that the texture has no texture drawn on it; it is just a single color.
The Platonic solids are:
Tetrahedron - 4 faces - triangles
Cube - 6 faces - squares
Octahedron - 8 faces - triangles
Dodecahedron - 12 faces - pentagons
Icosahedron - 20 faces - triangles
