4 Great Uses of the Konami Code - Retrogaming Easter Eggs #shorts
1,978Just about everyone who played videogames in the '80s and '90s has the Konami Code memorized. For most Konami or Ultra games of the NES and SNES eras, the code could be used to gain extra lives, powerups, or hidden secrets. All you had to do was input Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, and A at the right place. In this short video, I've showcased four beneficial uses of the legendary Konami Code.
In Gradius for the NES, if you pause the game and input the code, you will receive a plethora of powerups to help you sail through space. This was the first game in which the Konami Code could be used!
In Contra for the NES, jamming in the Konami Code on the title screen would start you with 30 lives. This was probably the most famous and useful implementation of the Konami Code, because this game is incredibly difficult. Sometimes the 30 lives still wasn't enough!
In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project for the NES, a slight variation on the Konami Code would reveal a hidden Level Select and Sound Test screen. On the title screen, input Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, then B, then begin the game and choose a Ninja Turtle. If performed correctly, you will see the hidden Level Select Screen. One of my favorite secrets in gaming right there!
In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time for the SNES, entering the Konami Code at the title screen with the second controller will allow the first player to find a hidden 10 lives option in the Option menu. Pretty much every TMNT game has some use for the Konami Code.
