Finally realized the 1, 2, 3 arcade floor cabinets in the game's virtual arcades are organized by opponent rank: lower ranks at cab 1, middle ranks at cab 2, and high ranks at cab 3! I never figured this out before! :P But now all those jerks from the "Special" group are hogging cab 3 in my low and intermediate-rank arcades, so it became kind of obvious even to me. This also makes me wonder if, if you keep fighting challengers at the cabs, the challengers follow the same general rank category for the cab; I'd guess yes but I haven't tried this out yet--but in theory, if you want to fight the lower ranks in the arcade, you just hop on cab 1, and then you bump up to the next cabs if you want a bit more of a challenge. (Mostly I cherry pick my opponents--to fight the ones I haven't beat yet--so it doesn't usually become a factor for me; except, when entering a new arcade, I could hop on cab 1 until the opponents start to repeat, then on to cab 2, etc--and if I ever reach the point where I've met all the challengers and/or just want to chill, now I'll know how to fine-tune the challenge level!)
Started using some ground attacks finally, and only got a nasty counter-attack once, I think--and that one was probably mostly avoidable if I hadn't flubbed my defense halfway through or something. Handy when fighting in a cage: you can't throw the opponent out and win it just like that, but you can throw them into the wall behind you, then get that ground attack hit on them for extra damage.
Hm... For this "gold" wrestler outfit, I probably should go back to red face paint, ditch the black collar, and get those red boots. ; )
At one point I mention the VF5 FAQ ( https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps3/932831-virtua-fighter-5/faqs/50154 ) saying that above Master rank you don't gain XP for beating lower-ranked opponents--but looking back on this video, I *did* get XP for beating another Warrior rank (34'17), and even for beating a 10th dan, which is two ranks below me (5'06). So the FAQ seems to be wrong about that.
10'07 - Defender rank is at the same level as Warrior, just a different win percentage; here's the rank list, maybe some day I'll remember some of these names :p (adapted from https://virtuafighter.fandom.com/wiki/Virtua_Fighter_5#Ranking_System ):
10th to 1st kyu, 1st to 10th dan, Master, then:
under 70 | 70 - 80 | over 80 (win percentage)
Defender | Hunter | Warrior
Enforcer | Raider | Veteran
Sentinel | Barbarian | Gladiator
Protector | Assassin | Vindicator
Guardian | Slayer | Avenger
Paladin | Berserker | Vanquisher
Liberator | Destroyer | Conqueror
I don't think I've fought any of the top rank yet; pretty sure I've fought some Avengers, maybe even a Vanquisher. I can't say I've yet felt any real difference between the named ranks, but then again I haven't fought them all that much yet, and I don't have their order memorized, so I haven't had much of an idea of what to be expecting as I face them.
