433: Virtua Fighter 5 PS3 \\ Can Jeffry escape Master rank? & VF Battle Masters?? {Quest mode: Hard}
[PS3 store is closing JULY 2nd; I flubbed and erroneously said "June 2nd" in the video.]
[Update 4/25/21: On April 19, the PlayStation Blog updated with a post from Sony Interactive Entertainment "President & CEO" Jim Ryan announcing they were back-tracking on the store shutdowns: the PS3 and PS Vita stores will *not* be closing https://blog.playstation.com/2021/04/19/playstation-store-on-ps3-and-ps-vita-will-continue-operations/ . The CEO-speak Ryan offers for the PR-nightmare initial decision and the back-track is:
"it was born out of a number of factors, including commerce support challenges for older devices and the ability for us to focus more of our resources on newer devices where a majority of our gamers are playing on. We see now that many of you are incredibly passionate about being able to continue purchasing classic games on PS3 and PS Vita for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad we were able to find a solution to continue operations."
The PSP store will still be closing on July 2nd, but a possible explanation for them not backtracking on that shutdown may be what a news article I read https://www.eventhubs.com/news/2021/apr/19/sony-reverse-decision/ notes: "most of those titles are already available on the Vita storefront."]

[[ PS3 update: This afternoon (3/31) the error code is 80029509 ("PSN down for maintenance") for both system activation attempts and attempts at downloading anything from my Download List. Progress? Tried calling PS phone support but they now handle support for PS4/5 *only*. ]]
[[[Another PS3 update: workaround found (for not being able to download and/or play purchased games). From https://forum.psnprofiles.com/topic/105656-cant-install-games-on-my-ps3-error-code-80029509/?do=findComment&comment=2298399 : "1. Log out of PSN (don’t know if it had direct effect) 2. Delete the store 3. Turn ON two-step verification 4. Log in on PS3 5. Install the store." I did that and got my downloads working, so I'll be able to record a Tekken 5 DR session tonight, yay. : )]]]
It was a rough first part of this! Somehow I didn't get demoted though: in Master rank, you're immediately demoted if you lose to a 10th dan, which is the rank just below you--and the one to which you're demoted; meanwhile, a 10th dan beating 1 Master is immediately promoted to Master; and a Master has to beat 5 10th dans to get promoted out of the Master rank vortex! : o
I think part of my struggle was that I had completely forgotten about ffK (forward, forward, Kick), Jeffry's huge, space-creating kick; and then after I at least remembered it existed, I struggled to re-locate its range, so I kept whiffing it right in front of the AI and then getting worked over. Without ffK's push-back, *I* was the one getting pushed back and cornered; and for a while I kept panicking in that situation and trying to edge around to freedom, or even jump over the AI if I'd knocked them down, and I wasn't really able to do either of those as Jeffry; finally figured out it worked better for me just to crouch block during the opponent's wake-up, then stand and fight.
Bombed out of a bunch of tournaments, lost a bunch of item matches--wheeoo. But, I cleared the big tournament eventually, and ranked out of the Master mess, so hopefully the next outing will go better and uh I won't forget ffK. : o
