A couple years have passed since Doom 3, and the UAC is at it again! When they explore a site from an ancient civilization and our character nabs a mysterious object codenamed "The Heartifact"--the demons are at it again. Another invasion, spearheaded by none other than a demonifided Dr. Malcolm Betruger, conspicuously alive at the end of Doom 3.

Dr. Elizabeth MacNeil, a name we may recognize fromt he base game, is in charge this time, and she guides us towards a doctor who can hopefully understand the Heartifact and stop the invasion. The Heartifact, as I discover partway through stream, is charged by human souls and has the power to slow down time! Which is pretty awesome when you're trying to slip between steel doors that can crush you like a bug. We also acquire a nifty new weaspon, the Grabber, which can grab and throw objects as well as porjectiles. Almost at once we have to use it to defeat the first mid-boss, the vicious floating and teleporting Firefly King. Hey, I wonder if the late Sgt. Kelly left us anything? Other than an arcade game about killing bears, that is.

I'm not playing especially well but am enjoying it so far. In trying to deal with the zombies who swarm you when the lights go out, I even softlock myself. Y'all should fix that, Id ;) The new lost souls (Lost Demon Souls?) have a pretty cool design, and it's great that they've got new monsters. This is looking like a good expansion pack. (I figured it would be, as it got a standalone console port.)
