Here's one I've had for a bit, the first game by Interplay, adapted from the Bourne novels. We play as a man stranded on an island with no memory of who he is. And no idea of what to do. Eventually we buy our way onto a pirate ship from the late 1890s. And have no idea of what to do, though we may have a clue about a past traumatic event.
This one seems more linear than LEATHER GODDESSES OF PHOBOS, but it is pretty early in the game. The navigation puzzle was a good bit easier than what Infocom would have thrown at us. I get stuck good and proper a couple of times though. Um WHY was I supposed to dig there? Oh, the one word being singular on the snip changes everything does it? I feel like they expect you to save and then use the limited hel pfunction, wehre a mystical condor and his little manservant dispense wisdom. Sometimes it's still not enough of a hint.
I wonder if it's more linear because it uses graphics, which take up space on the disk?
