5 Lesser Known Games You Should Play - Hidden Gem Roundup
Here are 5 Lesser Known Games You Should Play that you may not have heard of. With so many games being released these days it can be a herculean task to keep up with them all. Not to mention that awesome games from newer developers and indie studios can sometimes go unnoticed.
So in today’s video we will walk through 5 newish games that you may not have heard of yet but should have. Some of these games are in early access which means you can pick them up to support the developer if you like but keep in mind that they still have content to be added. Let the Hidden Gem Roundup begin!
We’ll start with some funky fun. Rhythm Doctor is a simple game that takes one input but manages to get you moving anyway. At its core it is a rhythm game where you are asked to tap the spacebar at specific points, under the guise that your rhythmic prowess saves lives at a hospital with a new type of therapy.
Patients with various types of ailments need you to jam out in order to bring them back to good health. At first it seems like a single input would get stale after a while, but Rhythm Doctor gets creative with how it mixes up the gameplay.
There’s something charming about the small budget horror games. It almost makes the games scarier in their own right. The Door in the Basement fits right into that category. It has the small budget coziness you’d expect with a screen filter to mask lower texture resolution. But it excels at building a creepy ambiance even with a limited toolset. The story feels fresh and well executed and the optional game writing you find throughout your playthrough fits right into your adventure.
You are asked to go down into the basement to retrieve some packages, until suddenly a door appears on the wall that wasn’t there before. And just like every high IQ horror main character you walk right into it only to find it barred behind you trapping you inside.
Home Sweet Home: Survive is an asymmetrical PVP game where 4 survivors are placed into a match with a spectre. If you’re a fan of games like Deceit, Dead by Daylight, or Secret Neighbor this is one to keep your eye on.
The interactions between the survivors and the spectre are far more direct than other games as you’ll see them stunning the spectre and fighting back. The spectre wins if all survivors are killed. Conversely, the Survivors win if they escape OR if they manage to kill the spectre who has a Health bar in this game.
In the Slormancer you collect Slorm to power your Slorm Reaper and defeat your enemies. The art style and the tone have a lighthearted touch to them but the core gameplay is similar to an ARPG. You’ll choose from 3 different classes a melee fighter, a magic fighter, and a ranged fighter.
The Slormancer boasts a surprising amount of customization. You can collect various weapons that all have different effects and individual leveling. You have two primary ability slots and 4 passive or aura ability slots. The abilities themselves can be modified within their trees. There’s a detailed stat investment with break points to give you boosts in power. And there’s also a global skill tree that you unlock by progressing the story and collecting powerful artifacts.
Lastly, let’s look at Voxel Tycoon. Another Early Access title that is essentially an industry simulator. Anyone who played the old OpenTTD would feel right at home with Voxel Tycoon. You start out with a world seed and a randomly generated set of towns and resources around them. Your goal is to create infrastructure to connect them together and stimulate trade.
As your profits grow you can research new upgrades. Starting with simple trucks from a garage on a trade route to trains, conveyor belts, and massive storage facilities. Your towns will grow along with their economy, adding new buildings and residences. But those new people need to get around so you will need to erect bus stops and bus routes to transport them around town.
And that’s it for 5 Hidden Gems you may not have heard of but totally should. If there are any hidden gems you think should get more visibility let me know down in the comments below. Thank you so much for tuning in today and I’ll see you in the next one.
