Resident Evil 2 remake is an ambitious revisiting of a survival horror classic - dragging Raccoon City into full 3D, adding new story and giving zombies a bit of bite again. In this Resident Evil 2 review we look at all the ways this is our dream remake (and a couple of ways it isn’t). Best chomp on a green herb - it’s going to get messy.

Our full Resident Evil 2 remake review is on Rock Paper Shotgun: The Site - I’ll pop a link to it below - but this list breaks down how Capcom have made Resident Evil 2 one of the best remakes we’ve played. It’s more than simple fan service, using modern tech to add visual polish but to create a deeper survival horror experience. The fact that enemies can chase you around the station, and that enemies are persistent, changes the way you have to approach the game. As this Resident Evil 2 PC review explains, your past mistakes can come back to haunt you, making for a more surprising game.

In this video list, I also look at how the Resident Evil 2 remake has grown the original game, padding out supporting characters and giving secondary playable characters more to do in the campaign. Whether it’s Ada’s hacking weapon or Shelly’s brief stealth adventure, these side stories help mix up the pace and give Leon and Claire’s campaigns a more distinct flavour.

In our RE2 review we also look at how the Tyrant brings a new kind of threat, even if he is a tad overused if you plan to play all four of the campaigns. In fact, that’s one of our main criticisms of Resident Evil 2 - cramming together events from the original’s A and B campaigns into one story mode means there are fewer surprises when it comes to replaying them. Makes for a better action experience in your first playthrough, but maybe takes away something from the second, third and fourth...

Our Resident Evil 2 PC gameplay - recorded at 1440p at 60FPS (I reviewed it using at GTX 1070) - also looks at how the game has brought the outside world of Raccoon City to life (with less success, I’m afraid). If you are playing the game we’ve love to hear your Resident Evil 2 reviews in the comments below. And if you are on the fence and have any questions please do ask them in the comments - we will do our best to answer them. Hopefully our Resident Evil 2 PC review explains itself clearly - I’ll be happy to clear up any confusing points.

If you enjoyed this Resident Evil 2 analysis, I’ve love for you to subscribe to Rock Paper Shotgun. We cover all things PC gaming-related - whether it’s the latest blockbuster or hidden gems of the indie scene, I hope that what we do cover is done with equal levels of care and attention.
