My final word on the Pound HD Link cable: Acceptable image quality, but Component still has superior sharpness. Xenosaga I appears to be designed with the slight blur in mind, but Episodes 2 and 3 benefit more from a sharper definition. Note as well that the sound you get through HDMI is analog stereo - for Dolby Digital Surround you will still need an optical cable. For simple connections, this HDMI adaptor is definitely a reasonable choice, but if you want the sharpest possible picture quality and Component is an option for you, stick to Component Out. For sound, using optical cables is more common today than back when the PS2 was manufactured, so at least that shouldn't be a problem. Getting soudn through your optical cable is then a simple configuration adjustment in the PS2 BIOS, and will happily play alongside either an HDMI adaptor or Component Out.
But keep in mind that the HDMI output is stretched to 1280x720. I haven't messed around much with the aspect ratio settings in the PS2 BIOS, so I can't give you an authoritative recommendation on the exact setup for best viewing experience, but I got around this by manually setting the TV's aspect ratio to 4:3 every time I started the game.
