A playthrough of the hidden character Tiger in the arcade version of Namco's Tekken 3.

The second last of the hidden characters is another hidden costume character, Tiger. Tiger is a model-swap of new character Eddy, and is a tongue-in-cheek reference to Eddy's fighting style. Eddy, as a Brazilian fighter, utilises the traditional fighting style Capoeira, a form of break-dance fighting. And, well, it looks pretty similar to disco-dancing sometimes...so of course Namco decided to include a 70s disco dancer as a alternate costume for Eddy, although Tiger is supposedly his own character as opposed to some alter-ego. Also, Eddy and alternate character costumes, keep that bit in mind. It'll be very important in the future.
So, Tiger is just "press X to win" with a different model more or less. We'll get to see Tiger a few more times, which at the very least will be enjoyable for the novelty of it. It's yet another novelty in a game full of them, and so there isn't much to say about him otherwise. Despite making fun of Eddy as the "press x to win" character of this game, I actually do quite poorly with him here, having done much better at other times. I'm too used to the Mishima/Kazama movesets by this point, I guess.
Eddy himself marks a bit of a shift in the Tekken franchise. He (along with Hwoarang) tend to be the reason why Tekken is dismissed by many as a "button-masher". While it is possible to pull off a lot of good moves in Tekken with minimal skill, attempting to make full use of them is something else entirely. Its use of rhythmic timing as opposed to frames in order to execute combos (in particular, juggles) makes it incredibly unique. The fact that's you're not able to fall back on projectiles, chip damage and other cheap tactics for victory (or weren't, at least, before Akuma) means that it actually be one of the more unforgiving titles at high-level, despite it being an "easy to learn, difficult to master" title. Dissmissal of it as a button-masher is silly, as particularly in later titles there exist numerous techniques to foil the attempts of those who attempt to button-mash their way to victory, as with Virtua Fighter. That's one of the brilliant aspects of this game however; everything has an advantage and a counter. Even if Eddy's breakdancing is cheap, it's not by any means undefeatable by utilising the right move/s with the correct timing. Despite capricious dismissals of it, the franchise has remained one of the strongest out there, bringing together more people than possibly any other fighting game series in existence.
So, I always liked Tiger, being a huge disco/funk fan myself and all. He doesn't serve any purpose in any of the games he's in, but whatever. It's a funny (funky) little extra, and there's no harm to it. He has a great PS1 ending too.
Next up, we finally finish up the hidden characters of Tekken 3. Boy, aren't these vids going fast now.
