A far more expectable way to handle real-time play with turn-taking is the element of action as a quantity to be used and restored constantly, as done here. Indeed, it's probably the simplest and most effective way to bring the deep-thinking archetype of roguelike games into a multiplayer environment. The key is that there still needs to be enough time to think things through, but not enough time to get bored quickly. Roguelikes thrive on "turn-taking at your own pace", which can be hard to balance when you have actions that take a literal amount of time. Given what's in the game, this one can actually be a bit slow, but you can really only figure out with enough feedback, and it's rare for a 7DRL to have anything from that department.

Game-wise it's not bad, very simplistic content at the moment. Making more use of items would help things along, and potentially giving the character abilities that can be easily accessed (shortcut keys if that customizable macros) would go a long way here. Nevertheless, it's a good starting effort to bring multiplayer into the genre.
