A playthrough of the boss and hidden character Raidou in Tecmo/Team Ninja’s Dead or Alive++

A few days ago, I reached 2100 subscribers. Huge thanks for everyone who's been subscribing and watching recently; that's another 100 subs in only about three weeks or so, which is a record for this channel currently.

Dead or Alive has this thing for unnecessary remakes. DOA++ is especially unnecessary, as it is actually a bit of a graphical downgrade on the Model 2 original, being that it is a reworking of the PS1 version which was then released into the arcades. Indeed, it is so odd and unnecessary to the point that, like many people, I thought that this WAS the arcade version of Dead or Alive 1. So that’s an arcade game which was ported, and then the port was ported to the arcade. It’s like Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game all over again in its superfluousness.

Raidou got a design change here, which is relatively interesting. Not as intimidating though, which makes him lose a lot of the point of him being this demonic piece of shit. A much easier playthrough than the Model 2 arcade version, frankly, especially with less bullshit AI and a fighting system which feels much more fluid to me. There’s no point even really playing as Raidou here, but it’s there, so I’ve covered it. Sake of thoroughness, yadda yadda. DOA++ actually isn’t a bad game in the slightest, but it is definitely on the “why does this even exist?” side of fighting games as far as it goes. Hell, many people (including myself) kind assumed this was the original DOA1 for years, until looking into the series more thoroughly and realising that the original was on the Model 2 board. I’ll say this much though; the way the game plays and looks here definitely explains the design and combats choices for the sequel a lot better.

Next up, we finally get to move onto the breath-taking sequel of this game. A sequel which itself would also eventually get a remake, though that one was more understandable.
