A Critical Thought on Controlling Tension
Continuing our talk on horror and pacing, we come to the act of controlling tension. Effective pacing requires both building up and releasing tension at the right times in order to keep things moving along.
Too much tension, and the person may calm themselves down and not get excited again. Too much release, and you won't be able to build the tension up. I also talked about how this applies to pacing, such as with Half Life 2's sectional design.
