Final Fantasy VII is one of the most important games ever made. It single handedly popularized the RPG genre in the West, and was a landmark title in pushing graphics and storytelling in video games. But does it still hold up today, even when compared to the many games it directly or indirectly inspired? The short answer is: yes. The long answer? Well, that's going to take about seven hours and another three parts to answer. For today, let us simply start our critique by analyzing the first act of the game: the Midgar section.
