A quick Steam Deck OLED test of The Sum [Docked mode] A GIGANTIC Fallout Tactics mod
There is a lot of videos on YT with various games tested on Steam Deck. Most of them present the footage of the screen and how the game looks ON Steam Deck. Some people, however, use their Steam Deck as a desktop PC or a regular console. My tests intend to show how the game looks and performs on an external screen, in full HD (not in 4k for performance reasons) with certain scaling options.
I love OG Fallouts. Fallout 2 is probably my favorite game of all time. I was that one kid others would talk to for clues and tips. I knew almost every secret there was in the game and believe me, there wasn't too many options back in the day for a non-English speaker than just testing and discovering most of the stuff by yourself. Years later, I spent an evening looking for overhaul mods for Fallout 2 and discovered this gem called The Sum. It was a modification for Fallout Tactics, probably my least favorite game from the good ol' series. But the more I investigated, the more I discovered that it was rather a brand new adventure in the style of Fallout 1 and 2 than the linear experience of Brotherhood of Steel. The amount of things this mod does is insane, the map is HUGE, with every square section of it being a handmade location. Crafting, fishing, cooking - it's all there. Although it is still pretty glitchy, I can't emphasize enough how ambitious The Sum is. I highly recommend discovering it by yourself!
NOTE: Bear in mind that this is recorded in the docked mode, meaning the performance might always be a bit lower than in the regular handheld mode due to the scaling, etc.
NOTE 2: To play the game on Steam Deck, ANY version of Proton selected in the compatibility tab should let you launch the game, but the intro will be laggy and you might experience visual glitches when moving the screen to fast when a window pops up at the same time. The Proton version specified in the video works really well and the intro and other cutscenes run smoothly. You might need to download additional Proton layers, there should be a good guide somewhere on the Internet for it :)
