Happyland Adventures playthrough on Steam Deck OLED [DOS] Retro platformer
IMPORTANT: This game is considered as abandonware. I recommend downloading the DOS version of the game for your Steam Deck. The regular PC version launches without any music and I couldn't find a solution to that issue. The DOS version works flawlessly though.
There is a lot of videos on YT with various games tested on Steam Deck. Most of them present the footage of the screen and how the game looks ON Steam Deck. Some people, however, use their Steam Deck as a desktop PC or a regular console. My tests intend to show how the game looks and performs on an external screen, in full HD (not in 4k for performance reasons) with certain scaling options.
Being an Amiga kid, my first actual PC was bad, like really bad. When my friend's were able to play the first Call of Duty, I had to stick to Fallout 2 or Arcanum (which I don't regret at all, because those two games are on my list of all-time favorites). My parents would also buy me various PC magazines. Back in the day in Poland, PC magazines were sometimes the only source for legit copies of games, especially in the smaller towns. That is why I am familiar with the really bad or generic titles. But the CDs were sometimes filled with small and unknown mini-games that I loved to explore. Happyland Adventures was one of them. I played it like more than 20 years ago and then I forgot about it. Some years later I wanted to play it again but I forgot the title and couldn't find the CD. I browsed the Internet for an hour or two and finally found the game but it worked really bad on the newer system. The resolution was off, the game was just in a small window. There was no chance I would be able to record it. And I knew about emulators like dosbox, but I am not a fan of cluttering my main PC with emulators and roms. Years passed and now, when I have a Steam Deck, I finally tested and ended up playing through the entire game (it is much shorter than I remembered). It really took me back :)
