When I first saw this guitar, I wasn’t sure how good it could be. But I missed having a T style guitar and I was on a Larada kick so ultimately I pulled the trigger. This guitar has been full of surprises. I didn’t expect it to sound as good as it does or play as well as it does. Out of the box I was blown away! It could even be put in drop C with new strings.
The design is comfortable to stand with and the body, while slightly neck heavy, is mostly balanced. And it definitely looks great. However there are a few drawbacks to this guitar. The first and most obvious one is how the overhand leaves little room for your playing hand on all frets past 12. On other Larads it’s not as bad, as they either have wider necks or a deeper thumb cut. For some reason the space T’s thumb carve goes only as deep as the neck itself.
The output jack sits right where your leg would go if you’re sitting classical style, which, given the overhang, you’re inclined to do. And finally, the biggest drawback is how difficult it’s been to keep in tune. Whether it’s because there’s a lack of intonation adjustability with the vintage style bridge or because it simply doesn’t want to, this guitar does not stay in tune for very long. I got this to fill a niche of single coil cleans but as plugins have gotten better and better, and I’ve gotten better at making presets, I find I’m reaching for this guitar less and less. Ultimately I won’t be keeping it for much longer, but I’ve enjoy the time I had with it as when it is in tune it’s an incredible instrument and probably the best Tele I’ve ever played.
