Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies - Episode 30: Sometimes You just Have to Spray, Spray, Spray
In today's episode of the "Dual Destinies" playthrough, we spray some luminol, save Orla from being drugged, and take advantage of Apollo's role as the office errand boy.
When it comes to this DLC case, I've always felt that it would've been better if it took place after the final case in the base game. Sure, people who start their first playthrough of the game would've been spoiled to the fact that Simon's acquitted of his murder charge (even though the game makes it clear that Simon's really innocent, as seen by how it portrays him in a likeable light and gives him freedoms that convicted felons in the legal world who are actually guilty of their crimes, such as Godot, Gant, and Blaise don't get), but it wouldn't have left people who've already completed the entire game with a hollow feeling due to dramatic irony. Plus, by having this case take place after Simon's acquittal, the developers wouldn't have had to shackle him to Fulbright, thereby allowing for Ema to be the lead detective and return as the source of the luminol-spraying mechanic instead of shoehorning Pearl into the role. I mean, with the exception of charging the magatama and that run-in with Marlon (which could have been done by a new one-off character), nothing would really change about this case if Pearls was absent and Ema doubled as the detective. In fact, things would make a bit more sense since the main areas that undergo forensic investigation in this case (the orca pool and show pool) are areas that we encounter Fulbright, Pearl has never shown an interest in forensics prior to or after this case, unlike Ema, who's obsessed with it, and it would make sense for Ema to try to bring Orla's case to court as a favor to Phoenix.
Plus, we could've gotten some good banter between Ema and Simon. I swear, if Simon and "Apollo Justice"/pre-"Spirit of Justice" Ema were working on a case together, it'd be the unstoppable force vs. the immovable object- Simon would try to psychological manipulate, intimidate, and troll Ema like he would with everyone else, but she'd just be completely unfazed due to her broken dreams and perpetual irritation with Klavier leaving her emotionally numb and done.
