Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War Walkthrough Part 21: Ancient Walls
1After being rescued following their "death" over Ceres Ocean, members of Wardog Squadron, Albert Genette and Pops are brought to Osean aircraft carrier Kestrel which is moored off the coast of Kirwin Island, barely seeing any action as most of its assigned pilots ended up killed in action, resulting in Swordsman being the only remaining fighter pilot stationed onboard Kestrel. As he talks to the Kestrel's captain named Andersen, Pops reveals the truth about the circumstances that forced him to defect from Belka to Osea during Belkan War, telling Andersen that he disobeyed an order to drop a nuclear weapon on a Belkan city, an infraction for which he was shot down by his own countrymen at which point he met Jack Bartlett who helped him with his defection and creation of a new life in Osea. He also reveals that there was a clandestine group of Belkan nationalists known as Gray Men operating in Belka during Belkan War, claiming that they likely still exist and expressing doubt that they had something to do with disappearance of Osean president and escalation of a war with Yuktobania. Then, Andersen reveals that his crew has intercepted a Belkan coded message and reveals a reson for sending Swordsman and his helicopter squad to save Wardog Squadron from Ceres Ocean; The message revealed that Osean president, Vincent Harling, is in Belkan custody and is being held within Stier Castle, a castle in Southern Belka that lies on the site of seven nuclear detonations triggered by Belkans near the end of Belkan War in a desperate effort to stop Allied Forces from breaching their northern heartland, leaving the entire surrounding area desolate and uninhabitable. Wardog Squadron, reinforced by Swordsman who joins them as new fourth member, is sent to Stier Castle in order to provide air support for Sea Goblin unit as they infiltrate the castle itself in order to rescue President Harling with the mission ending in success.
As they return to Kestrel, Wardog Squadron members and the rest of the crew converge on the carrier's command bridge and are briefed by Harling who learned the truth behind the ongoing war while imprisoned in Stier Castle; Belkans have manipulated tensions between Osea and Yuktobania using their sleeper agents posted in both countries and other covert means, ultimately succeding in pitting two countries against each other as their respective governments were taken over by pro-war, nationalistic hardliners, Belkan goal apparently being to drive both countries into ruin through war as revenge for Osean and Yuktobanian role in Belka's defeat in a war 15 years prior.
Next day, a coded message from Yuktobania is intercepted by Kestrel's intelligence team whose contents imply specific time on December 11th, 2010, also containing a number of votes Harling had won in his elections with this leading the president to realize that the message was sent for him. In addition, Wardog Squadron, whose members are believed to be dead, are reorganized into a new squadron under Harling's direct command and are re-christened as Razgriz Squadron, allowing them to return to the battlefield in pursuit of the shadowy faction responsible for orchestrating the war between Osea and Yuktobania without outing themselves to Oseans...
