With Jack Bartlett having officially been declared missing in action after search party sent to the crash site of his plane near the coast of Sand Island turns up empty-handed, base commander on Sand Island starts to suspect that Bartlett has defected to Yuktobania, much to Chopper's irritation. However, as he recounts the situation to Albert several hours after attack on St. Hewlett, an air raid is sounded, forcing all pilots present in the base, including Blaze to sortie in order to defend the base from Yuktobanian bombing raid. As the air battle rages over Sand Island, a young airman 1st class named Hans "Archer" Grimm enters one of the landed fighters and takes off, joining Wardog Squadron as their new fourth member. With their combined efforts, Wardog Squadron manages to shoot down all of Yuktobanian bombers, preventing destruction of Sand Island AFB.

After the end of the battle, Albert decides to stay on the island in order to cover the ongoing war and Wardog Squadron's role in it...
