This is a short comparison of the performance of an ARM3 processor at 35Mhz with the cache both enabled and disabled in order to demonstrate how it affects program execution speed.
The machine in the video is an Acorn Archimedes 440/1 with an ARM3 upgrade board installed, replacing its original ARM2 8Mhz CPU (done by the computer’s previous owner). It has 4MBs of memory, if I’m not completely mistaken.
I would have loved to record at a higher framerate but no camcorder of mine can handle the 50hz refresh rate of the A440s video output. The idea was to originally capture the video output from the machine via an OSSC but the Epiphan DVI2USB 3.0 didn’t seem to like it so I will have to figure something out until next time.
