Sometimes we watch a performance by an actor and think, “Wow, that role must have been written FOR them!” And sure, often that’s true. Especially when it comes to A-listers, writers and directors will come up with roles that are specifically written for someone. Or at least, with that actor in mind. And then, if the actor is unavailable, they have to figure out plan B. But there have also been some absolutely classic performances by actors, where you’d assume the part was written specifically for them… but the opposite is true. The role was actually written specifically for another person! It happens more than you’d think. It’s especially surprising when their performance is so spot on that it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the role. But since landing the ideal actor for a role isn’t always the easiest thing to do, other actors are often brought in to replace the actor the role was created for. In this video, we’re taking a look at some big time roles performed by big time actors. But the twist is that none of these roles were written for those specific actors. They were developed with a different A-list actor in mind. And then, for a variety of reasons, the first actor became unavailable. We’ll go over some pretty wild actor and actress combinations, with names like Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Idris Elba, Will Smith, Michelle Yeoh, Jackie Chan, and more. It’s a fun exploration it what could have been with some pretty big movies!
