Add Texture To Game Character Model In Blender Tutorial (Shader Editor)
For "How to add some image texture to a fbx model in Blender," please watch this video : https://youtu.be/iWGQv_G15kc
In this tutorial, I share how I put texture onto a game character XPS model using Blender 2.8. By using the Shader Editor in Blender, we will set up different texture image nodes to a shader node and a material output node.
Note: Remember to set the Blend Mode to Alpha Hashed in the Material Properties section for the hair.
To get the hair to look darker, please follow these steps.
PC0002_01_Hair_Cout.tga image texture link to Diffuse on XPS Shader node. Set as sRGB for Color Space.
PC0002_01_Hair_Aout.tga image texture linke to Lightmap on XPS Shader
PC0004_01_Hair_Nout.tga image texture link to Bumpmap on XPS Shader
Then in Material Properties, go to Blend Mode set as Alpha Hashed and shadow mode as Opaque.
The last step is optional(for darker looking hair). Making a specular map ourself, and linking it to specular on XPS Shader.
By following this youtube tutorial. I used Photoshop. But any image painting software should do. https://youtu.be/-6cay07QxhM
Hope that helps.
Basically you can have 4 image texture. The diffuse image, the AO image, the specular and the normal image for the shader nodes. If you're importing a XPS model into Blender, there will be a XPS Shader already. You can link the normal map straight to the bump map on the XPS Shader. The Diffuse image is connected to the diffuse connector. It functions to be like the base color if I'm not wrong. It's different from Albedo map that does not have any lights or shadows. Diffuse has a directional light and shadow already on it. The bump map is to give it depth. Then there's the lightmap which is the AO image texture. Lightmap is to tells the computer how to light the surface. Which parts should reflect light more and which parts shouldn't. I'm not sure if specular map should be on hair. I've seen some models have it, some don't. Specular is suppsed to give the highlights on glossy materials. Specular is viewpoint dependant unlike diffuse which is not.
