As someone who has loved reading since I was a kid, it would seem as if English class would be a subject I would love. However, though I didn't struggle with it the way others did, it was a very dry and uninteresting class most of the time. I'd acknowledge some of that stems from having to cover the mechanics of the English language. However, I think the choice of books and authors is also very poor. Almost as if once the people who designed the curriculum on a set number of books didn't want to bother teaching the next generation of teachers anything else or update that list.
