While I was working on PC98, I figured I should test out recording Sharp X68000 games while I'm at it, though I doubt I'm going to do a dedicated run for it right now. For those who don't know, the Sharp, much like the NEC PC8801 or PC9801, is a type of Japanese home computer, all of which were made in the 80s. Capability wise, the Sharp was quite the beast for its time, though few games released for it really took advantage of its capabilities.

It features many neat, original titles as well as remakes and arcade-style ports of games, and there is a pretty dedicated scene for the platform till this day. The video to test record is of Akumajo(u) Dracula, but not just any Akumajou Dracula game; it's a remake of the Famicom Disk System and Famicom game, which was re-released many years later within Castlevania Chronicles for Playstation (which is the first time this version of the game would ever leave Japan).

For its time, the game was quite good on a number of fronts. While people often tout its inferiority to Super Castlevania IV due to the time of release and the platform (a home computer), one must remember that, while it was a computer, it's a computer made back in the mid-late 80s. Granted, it's not nearly as old as the PC88 or PC98 and it could have done a lot more with the game, it's a remake of a game older than the Sharp itself; I don't think they wanted to change the game too much. Regardless, if you're really looking to play this game, you should just play Castlevania Chronicles.

This game features all the original Castlevania goodness you're likely familiar with and a little more, besides the obvious facelift in the audio/video department (which is great by the way; I love the attention to detail). As Simon Belmont, you're off to do what you always do: Defeat Dracula. The game allows you to change directions in mid-jump now and have more flexibility when whipping in mid-air. You can gain various power-ups from candles or enemies including the ability to heal some health and stop time. There are lots of secret goodies and cool boss fights.

This video goes through the intro and first level (three stages). Enjoy.
