This Al Nilsen interview was conducted as a part of the /r/retrogaming Podcast and was originally published on Soundcloud in 2016.

Before joining Sega on Feb. 23rd, 1989, Al worked for J.C. Penney where he was the buyer for video games for one of country's largest national retailers. He discusses the Pac-Man launch, great crash of 1983, and more.

After J.C. Penney, Al was recruited by Mattel, where his future Sega comrade in arms, Tom Kalinske, was CEO. While at Mattel Al was in charge of marketing for the Intellivision console.

This podcast focuses on Al's history in the video game industry before joining Sega. But the topic does come up frequently. Part II covers his time at Sega.
