Alan Wake Walkthrough Part 1 (PC / Xbox 360) Episode 1 - Gameplay Playthrough Commentary / Opening
Alan Wake Walkthrough Part 1 (PC / Xbox 360) Episode 1 - Opening Gameplay with Cutscenes Commentary / Original Game, not remaster.
Alan Wake, a famous author and all round pretentious, self important barely-likeable yet badass at the same time guy takes his wife NOT Jennifer Love Hewitt (boo!) Alice to Bright Falls, a small town with nosy yet kind hearted people. But something isn't right and Alan soon discovers that the town has a terrible secret... shadow people. They kidnap Alice from their holiday crow foot cabin leaving Alan with a mission to find his wife!
I love Alan Wake. I find this horror game to be well done. Alan Wake introduced me to some cool new bands and songs that I have listened to often after all these years. This is the original Alan Wake version, not the terrible remaster that aged Alan a decade and messed other fine details up. Alan Wake isn't perfect, the core gameplay gets a little stale by late episodes, but the story and characters keep it together. I love that Alan isn't meant to be a likable person, that he's kind of a dick. And his one friend Barry, whom may come off at first as a typical side kick or dweeby person, turns out to be one of the coolest dudes on Earth, and Alan does not deserve him. HA.
I love horror games. At the time I recorded this playthrough, I was often too scared to play horror games at all. Alan Wake and this walkthrough helped steer me towards the genre heavier. These days Survival Horror and Action Horror are my favourite video games to play. So, this Alan Wake playthrough is special to me in that sense of it helping me develop what was needed to play other classic horror games.
Sadly, Alan Wake has no puzzles or riddles to break up the combat, and the gameplay loop gets a little old. A puzzle every now and then is often used in horror to break from the action and general sense of combat high. Silent Hill, Fatal Frame and classic Resident Evil did it well. Alan Wake tries to go the Resident Evil 4 route, but doesn't have the basic combat energy that Resi 4 has to keep that one style of gameplay fresh.
Still, a great title, one I love to revisit every now and then, and enjoy the wild story telling of these beautiful developers that carefully added so much passion and love to the game. Alan Wake isn't a perfect horror game, but it is one I proud to have in my collection, and feel the story deserves a true, polished ended. Alan and his wife must find each other again, and regain happiness.
