Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle (Genesis) Playthrough [4K]
"Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle" for Sega Genesis is a platformer game developed by published by Sega 1989. It's the fifth installment in the Alex Kidd series. The narrative picks up from Alex Kidd in Miracle World. Alex resides on Planet Aries under the rule of his brother, King Igul. Upon learning a rumor suggesting his long-lost father, King Thor, might still be alive on Planet Paperock, Alex embarks on a journey to find him.
Players guide Alex on his journey across the mythical planet Paperock to find his missing father, King Thor. Along the way, Alex utilizes various tools and transportation methods, such as a motorbike, pedicopter, and pogo stick, each offering distinct abilities to aid in his adventure. Across eleven diverse worlds, players must engage in "Paper, Rock, Scissors" battles with adversaries before ultimately locating King Thor.
The player navigates Alex through eleven stages, confronting and evading enemies and obstacles along the way. Alex can jump, kick, crawl, or punch foes, making them burst into gold coins known as Baums. By playing Janken (rock-paper-scissors) in gambling houses, players can acquire new items and vehicles like the Sukopako Motorcycle, a pedicopter (a pedal-powered mini-helicopter), a pogo stick, and a wizard cane that lets Alex float momentarily. Being hit by any enemy results in Alex's immediate demise.
Overall, "Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle" features the best graphics of the series, this being the only 16-bit version of an Alex Kidd game. The gameplay is decent if somewhat uninspired. The controls are a bit sluggish, and since Alex is very vulnerable where a single hit can spell doom, this is extra frustrating. Many challenges and boss battles consists of "Paper, Rock, Scissors" battles, which are random and not very entertaining after a while. But it's still a solid platformer and a classic 2D platformer, and the last entry in the Alex Kidd series.
