"Sonic Drift" is a racing game released for the Sega Game Gear featuring the character Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends, and marks the debut racing title in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Players can choose one of four characters, Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Dr. Robotnik, and race through 18 tracks inspired by zones from the 1991 classic, Sonic the Hedgehog, aiming to cross the finish line first.

Gameplay consists of navigating tight turns, and using power-ups scattered throughout the tracks to gain an advantage over opponents. Each character comes with unique attributes; for example, Sonic boasts rapid acceleration but challenging control, whereas Robotnik offers high-speed movement at the expense of slower acceleration. Along the tracks, players can collect power-ups from television monitors and gather gold rings.

The game offers three distinct modes: Chaos GP, a grand prix tournament; Free Run, a practice session; and Versus Mode, allowing head-to-head races between players. Chaos GP features three cups, each with six tracks, where players aim to outscore their opponents. These cups are color-coded: green, yellow, and red.

Overall, "Sonic Drift" has colorful graphics and fast-paced gameplay. There's too little content though, and the track designs as too similar, offering little variation and excitment. The stage themes are purely cosmetic instead of affecting the track designs themselves. The cornering controls are lacking too, and the difficulty is too low. The debut racing title for Sonic the Hedgehog doesn't come close to matching similar racing games from this time.
