Alfred Tries To Play: Tetris Attack (SNES)
Tetris 2 played more like Dr Mario than Tetris, but at least it still had the recognisable Tetris pieces. Tetris Attack on the other hand has nothing to do with Tetris at all- it's the video game equivalent of calling a horse a car.
The game is actually a reskinned version of the Japanese game Panel de Pon. The western version adds the Tetris Attack name and changes the graphics to feature characters from Yoshi's Island.
You have to swap the positions of the coloured shape blocks to form horizontal or vertical lines of 3 or more of the same kind to make them disappear. Making 4 or more blocks disappear or creating a chain reaction stops the steadily rising stack for a brief time. The game ends when the stack reaches the top of the screen.
A fun puzzle game then, even if putting the Tetris name on it is very misleading.
