Throughout human history, various plant, animal, and other species have been removed from their natural habitats and introduced (either purposefully or unintentionally) to other regions of the planet. Some of these introduced species become "invasive" in their new environment, owing in part to a lack of natural predators. While many invading species get a temporary reprieve from their old foes, local parasites and predators rapidly realize that the newcomer may be added to their menus as well. This was the situation with a spider species that was imported to Brazil and ended up drawing the interest of a mind-controlling wasp.
