Hunters are available on all missions and are the second cheapest predators you can buy. They are capable of firing whilst on the move, and with the predator vision upgrades, can out-range everything except snipers, and can out spot all other units. This means with a large number of hunters you can creep forward, blasting enemy units whilst remaining out of range. If you start to get chased, you can run away whilst continuing to fire at your pursuers. Essentially the game at that point becomes less about strategy, and more about kiting enemy units. If I wanted to do that, I would play an ADC in League of Legends.

There are only three occasions when this strategy does not work. In the third mission, enemy predator Spear masters have armour that absorbs heat based attacks, including the plasma blasts from hunters. In mission 4, you are only given 4 predators that you have to improvise with. Finally, at the end of mission 6, you are required to assault a room containing Dr Kadinsky. This room is filled with snipers who will shoot you through the walls before you get to the entrance. All three of this situations can be overcome by using a couple of stalkers with your group instead. The large number of troops protecting Dr Kadinsky can be easily neutralised by using two cloaked stalkers (1:53:00). In fact, even though all predators are capable of utilising cloaking, the only Predators it’s even really useful on are stalkers (Due to their ability to remain cloaked for longer periods of time and to attack without DeCloaking) and the spear Masters (Due to their ability to deliver a critical hit if attacking whilst undetected).

Spear Masters take very little damage from flame based weaponry and it will actually add to their energy state. You can exploit this, by deliberately getting attacked by flamethrower units to quickly regenerate your energy stat. This way, you can use the attacks to effectively heal yourself whilst remaining cloaked indefinitely (1:14:54).

Most of the missions involve two stages. The first part is about using whatever predators you are given at the start to kill units, collect skulls, and amass points to buy predator tech upgrades and other units. The second part involves cheesing the remainder of the level with Hunters and stalkers, sticking them in stand ground stance, and slowly whittling away at troops outside their range. PredGuns are powerful and can be used to protect your shrine whilst you send your predators off. If you still have your starting predators however, you can just stick whatever Brawlers or disc masters you have leftover in defensive mode to protect your shrine.

The predators tend to do better against the marines, but can struggle against the aliens. Most of the marines can be killed from a long distance away, and many can be exploited by using predator cloaking (Just look at mission 4 to see how poorly marines deal with long ranged, cloaked predators). The aliens on the other hand tend to have a lot more units capable of defeating cloaked units (Runners, Queens, Praetorians and Hive Nodes compared to just Synthetics and sentry guns. Not only that, but upgraded runners are capable of infecting predators with spores and tracking them across the map). Despite being almost entirely melee oriented, the increased speed and survivability of the aliens makes them much harder to kite effectively.
