Tekken 5 Dark Ressurection
The Tekken series was always a killer when it came to arcade fighters. This game builds on the content and characters from Tekken 5, adding more fighters, more moves, new backgrounds, new customization options, and more.
The graphics are amazing. Each level looks unique and is a feast to the eye. The PSP doesn't pull off a polygon-perfect graphics , but the characters look and move as just right for an action packed arcade fighter. The corners seem to have been cut in the backgrounds, which occasionally show a grungy texture , and in the pre- and postfight animation, which isn't quite as smooth as the fighting. But these are just small details. The game looks and performs amazing.
Something remarkable about the performance is that you would expect from such a graphically demanding game for a portable device to have long loading screens. But the PSP manages loadings in under 10 seconds. Namco really did a great job optimizing the game.
The gameplay is spot on, the controls respond excellent. The fighting is fast paced and fun, and you have a lot of possible combos. Also not all characters fight alike, as you might know already from the series. Each character has it’s unique fighting style and unique moves.
Also, unlike most Tekken games, Dark Resurrection starts with the complete cast of 34 characters available, so you won't have to dig through story mode multiple times to get all of the fighters.
As for modes ,you have the arcade mode, practice mode, and also, versus mode, in which if you have a friend with a PSP you can connect your devices and play together ad-hoc matches, and compete one versus another.
Another killer feature is the ghost AI. There is a mode where you compete againsts ghosts. Ghosts are replicated fighting styles by the PSP. You can create your own ghost, but already comes with plenty of ghosts from the box.
By winning fights, you earn money, which you can use to change the appereance of characters.
Additionally, the game has the same sound effects that Tekken 5 had, which makes the hits sound just right.
Tekken 6
After the success of Tekken Dark Ressurection, Namco released a new video game, Tekken 6.
The graphics are again astonishing, the controls are snappy as always on the Tekken titles, ready to land some nice combo moves. There's no stutter, no lag here when playing the game. Controls and the fighters are smooth and responsive.
And did you like the fast loading screens in Dark Resurection ? Now they are even faster.
Another nice touch are the mappable buttons. It seems like a minor thing, but it’s a nice feature to have more freedom to change the button atributions.
There are 5 different difficulty levels, ranging from super easy to “ I’m packing my bags and live under the bridge as the failure that I am” difficult. Also called “ this bot is a hacker” difficulty.
It strips out the console version's lengthy beat-'em-up campaign and doesn't have the same depth of character customization. But still, the game has a robust lineup that features 41 fighters. Many characters get new attacks, new stances, but the game remains still, almost the same from this aspect.
It also includes 6 new characters: Bob, Leo, Miguel, Zafina, and Alisa, which is my personal favorite in the game. What is your favorite character ? Let me know in the comments down below.
