In this lecture we discussed the structure of alpha helix in details with each and every detail. The lecture begins with primary structure of proteins and proceeds to secondary structure of proteins where an overview of alpha helices , beta pleated sheets ,beta turns and motifs is given. The main lecture is about alpha helix structure where biochemistry is involved extensively. Structure of helix is discussed in detail with the help of structure of amino acids.
What is the difference between amino acids and amino acid residues is also elaborated. How many amino acid residues are their in one helical turn and hydrogen bonding is established during the formation of alpha helix in secondary structure of proteins. The factors affecting the structure of alpha helix are also discussed. The answer for the question "why proline and glycine can't take part in alpha helix structure?" Is also elaborated.
