Before I expand on the title, let me clarify: I mean Basim, not Loki. I don't think Altair and Loki would vibe at all. However, a lot of the character development Basim went through reminded me a lot of Altair's own story in AC 1. To me, their arc went through a very similar trajectory, with tragically different endings. And I love it.

Basim, Like Altair after him, found himself being a talented and slightly arrogant individual who was humbled by a stern mentor who taught them the philosophy of the creed while committing its biggest contradiction: Both Al Mualim and Roshan preach the ideology of free will, but reprimand their respective students when they ask questions about the truth of their own reality and practice freedom of thought.

In AC Mirage, Basim sees himself getting told by his targets that not all is as it seems, and there is a secret that his superiors are trying to stop him from uncovering. Likewise, in AC 1, Altair sees himself being told by his targets that not all is as it seems and there is a secret that his superiors are trying to stop him from uncovering. I think if Altair had seen how Basim fought against the status quo and called out the hypocrisies of the hidden ones, he would have been very proud. they both have that rebellious spirit that propelled them forward in an organisation that promoted stagnation robed in illusory progress.

Basim understood that he had to break the instructions of Roshan, just as Altair did with Al Mualim, and they both ended up confronting their mentors because knowledge of the precursor race led them to act outside of the true ideals of the assassins. Altair defeated the temptation of the precursor view after defeating his mentor, and Basim did not. This is the point where Altair and Basim differ, and of course, although I draw parallels, both their stories are unique and I still love that basim we have in Valhalla. But I wanted to talk about this because AC Mirage made me believe that Altair would be proud of Basim if he ever saw him.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is an action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. The game is the thirteenth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series and the successor to 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
