When the Developers Are Also Fans of AC
I was already in awe of the care and detail that Bordeaux put into Assassin's Creed Mirage during development. When I played the game I could feel the love these devs had for the franchise. Everything about the game (that was in their control), was perfectly tailored to satisfy the cravings of a fan that had been starved and fed breadcrumbs over the better part of the last decade. I was happy to see that I could actually play as an assassin AND do assassin things all in one game (I know, revolutionary).
I was already convinced that Ubisoft Bordeaux understood me. They understood what I wanted, and more importantly WHY I wanted it. It's a studio that doesn't need us to explain why assassins are cool, why stealth is a great playstyle, or why the visual aesthetics of a brotherhood assassin are so fun to play with and look at. But with this update that everyone's been going crazy over, I finally get why they understood me. They are also fans of AC.
There are some pretty standard but lovely additions here like a new game plus that was much needed for a game like Mirage. Playing through early missions with all your gear to experience the story again is an absolute joy to the soul. But what has really impacted me is the fact that the devs listened to feedback about back ejects and side ejects...and improved them. For Ubisoft to even acknowledge that there is such a thing as side and back ejects is impressive in itself. For them to listen to the fans and directly improve it is an act of god. Or in this case, an act of Bordeaux, which until the foreseeable future when my hype dies down, is god as far as I'm concerned. It's crazy we're getting this kind of thing in 2023 when many of us had long abandoned hope that a studio would care about niche assassin's creed things. but here we are
I am also amazed that they will be adding permadeath mode, which is something that every AC has always needed. This further highlights the point I've made here, but I'll go on a separate rant for that in January.
Hope you enjoy this stealth video of an early mission that I loved playing my first time, that I got to enjoy with a maxed-out assassin. oh, and the Bayek outfit is top 3 outfits in the game, so happy I get to have this eye candy here now too.
