Got the oil I noticed in the video before, and apparently I didn't explore far enough last time to find the gate with the weakened lock. And bad form game, having the ghoul see me while I was listening to exposition! At least I was able to hide behind some crates at a dead end.

The cistern area is looking to be an order of magnitude more complex. I don't know the significance of the suspended weights in the control room, why that large gear is held up by a board in the far room, or how to lower the bridge in the sewer area. I'm guessing getting to that third valve will drain the stairway for me in the first area. And I still need to somehow fix the East bridge in the main room, and figure out what this wooden crank is for.

Update: Since I was at a dead end at the end of this video and I didn't want to record more waste of time, I watched another youtuber. I did notice that the levers used to move the large plunger were in the same positions as in the other room. I could have (should have?) implied form that that the room with the hanging weights also had to match the other hanging weight room. So I'll do that, and see what that opens up - hopefully it will lead me to a way to lower the bridge in the sewer, and lead me to a use for the crank.
