An African Woman painted by Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano
Here's a look at black characters painted by Yoshitaka Amano whose art has appeared in the Final Fantasy series.
The primary artwork on display today is that of an African woman, possibly an African queen. We explain all the African cultural influences found in this painting including references to African jewelry and African masks. We look at cultures like the Maasai, Ndebele, Songye, Igbo, Himba and more.
The secondary art in this video is a black woman riding a chocobo. During this section we get a brief lesson in Final Fantasy history in regards to the chocobos. Thats not the only FF mascot in the video by the way theres also plenty of moogles.
There is also many other Yoshitaka Amano paintings throughout this video.
The main point of the video is basically, not just Final Fantasy but in general, games need more Black characters. Black characters have existed on the periphery for far too long and we need them to not just be side characters but main characters.
