Anathema Key, and... Home? - Returnal pt.4 (2023-03-05)
0I finally made my way the entire way out to pick up that Anathema key, thanks to the Atropian Blade that I can use to cut through shielded enemies and some barriers. Inside the vault is a hole that leads straight down into a pit where I encounter the first major boss - Phrike.
The quiet, somewhat somber music for this boss is an excellent platform for amping up the intensity of the combat for a first boss and letting Housemarque flex their shmup roots. It's got a very "focus mode" kind of feel. I nearly killed the boss in my first attempt, but I've been having trouble with the strange decision to have the circle button as the default input for dodging. So much of the game is designed around analog sticks and trigger buttons and I even later found that R1 isn't even bound by default if you're using adaptive triggers.
I quickly stumbled into a couple of additional deaths - one from some creature taking hold of one of the Sellene's former bodies, and another from a miniboss in an optional area.
I quickly found myself passing by the house again, and finally got a chance to have a look inside...
