Thomas the Army's famous kissing horse is bidding farewell to his two-legged brothers in arms to go into retirement after 18 years in service. The 22-year-old gelding - one of the oldest horses in the Household Cavalry - has made a name for itself kissing the men of the Life Guard Squadron in his stables at Hyde Park. Every offer of a polo or an apple is greeted with one of its sloppy kisses - tokens of appreciation that have also been bestowed on colonels, weather girls and celebrities.
