The bodies of two British service personnel killed in Afghanistan have been flown home today.

Corporal Channing Day from 3 Medical Regiment is the third UK woman to be killed on duty since the conflict began.

She died alongside Royal Marine Corporal David O'Connor in Helmand Province last Wednesday.

Their union flag draped coffins arrived at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire this afternoon.

After private ceremonies for their families on the air base, the cortege was escorted at walking pace past the memorial garden in Carterton, where the union flag was hung at half-mast.

An initial review into their deaths has revealed the killings were not caused by so called "friendly fire" but the Ministry of Defence says Investigations are continuing.
