Well, if Baud dying wasn't a kick in the pants already, Mortimer wants everyone not named Aylanda to die down here. Cue in the second half of this map where new enemies spawn around the map and the music changes to a more "Get out of here NOW dammit!" type of tone. You now have to get all the way back to where you entered this map and escape. Lovely!

First thing to mention...Jakka is carrying Baud's body. He can drop him if he wants, but he'll disappear (though it's implied someone else picks him up). You don't want to do that as there's a good reward if Jakka carries Baud all the way to the exit.

As for the new enemies...instead of only Knights & Soldiers, there's stuff like Halberdiers & Snipers....and Steel Knights. Oh dear, that last one's going to be a problem, even if it can't move. Incredibly tanky and effective damage immunity, what to do about that you might ask.

The answer comes in after the enemy's first phase. If you remember Albert from chapter 8, he comes in and absolutely deletes the Steel Knight with effective damage due to his personal weapon Nightbringer. Jakka, Aylanda, Hailey, or Zakarias can recruit him.

Albert is a Mage in Swordmaster's clothing. His weakest stats are typical magic user weaknesses (hp, str, and def). The rest are good base & growth wise for the most part, but his magic base is a tiny bit lacking. Nothing a Spirit Dust or two can't fix though if his growths don't pull through.

What makes him even more unique though...he has access to staves. If nothing else, he makes a great staffbot.

Now, the big question you're all asking...why did he have effective damage against that Steel Knight despite it having the Nullify passive? Albert's personal skill, Nihil. He just straight up ignores enemy skills in combat. Couple that with his Nightbringer personal weapon that's effective against armored units and he will absolutely MELT Steel Knights in two hits, even the ones that are at death squad levels of stats.

One problem though...on your 2nd player phase, Jesse mentions heavy footsteps from the north and suggests going south. On normal & hard, you can afford to go north through the two strong Steel Knights thanks to Albert. Here...just go south. Once the enemy's second phase ends, reinforcements come from the north. Three strong Steel Knights and one on the warpath Galahad. Unlike before, he wants blood...and he can get it cause one look at his stats tells you to run like goddamn bastards. Albert MIGHT be able to tussle with him if he weren't getting quad'd with a Barrier buff and Rescue staff spammage, but I don't quite have that luxury so I need to run...and troll Galahad's group.

You see, as nightmarish as Galahad is, he's still bound by the AI to do dumb things like go after the nearest target. In my case, it's Shay who's luring him back to Baud's cell. Galahad's buddies get murdered attempting to deal with Albert one by one. By the time Shay needs an evac, Aylanda's near the first group of Halberdiers & Snipers that don't move and can Rescue her back to the main team (Starfall is SO good for this let me tell you). This means Galahad's going to need a few extra turns to catch up, meaning more than enough time for me to cut my way through the strong Steel Knights and not follow the intended path.

Albert put in a ton of work this chapter, even going as far as to cause time freeze shenanigans with his Runesword, meaning some edits to cut out the freezing. Also putting in a surprise amount of work isn't Aylanda or even Isabelle, but Crixus. I have faith he's going to turn out to be a great enemy deleter once he gets some levels lemme tell you.

Speaking of Isabelle & Aylanda, the latter made it to one level away from capping, but the former did hit 20 so she popped a Master Seal to promote to General, gaining +7 hp, +2 str, +3 mag, +3 skl, +2 spd, +2 def, and +3 res along with access to axes. She's doing just fine stat wise. Maybe a bit more res, but when next chapter comes....hehehe.

Making it to the end with Jakka still holding onto Baud will boost his max hp by 7. Not a bad reward at all!

As the team makes it out to safety, Aylanda as expected is not handling the events well with her depression hitting critical levels. Albert comes in and gives Aylanda another pep talk, saying he feels her pain about losing her loved ones. Albert's family is all gone except for himself.

Albert also mentions the same thing Jakka did in the prison...Aylanda still has friends & family...and Baudimon's child. It does seem to brighten her spirits just enough for her to push on.

There's also Jesse getting into Jakka's squad in his usual dopey style.

More next time!
