Andy Serkis' Mowgli Heads to Netflix After WB Fears Flop
Andy Serkis’ long-delayed Jungle Book movie just went from a Warner Bros., “theatrical” release to a Netflix streamer. Deadline reports that the streamer has has acquired the worldwide rights to Mowgli from Warner Bros., which had initially slated an October 19th theatrical release for the gritty take on the classic tale. The streaming service is now planning a 2019 release for the film, which alongside Bright and Michael Bay’s upcoming Six Underground will mark one of Netflix’s first “blockbusters.” What is missing from the report, however, is just how much Netflix paid for the title, and if it is more than the budget which, just from looking at the long history and production troubles, could be in excess of $100mil+
Jeff Sneider, Perri Nemiroff and Mark Reilly sit down to offer their thoughts on the news, and what it could mean for the quality of the movie. Will this land with critics like Bright and The Cloverfield Paradox landed, and what project will Andy Serkis next attach himself to? Make sure you COMMENT with your thoughts about Lando’s return.
