Angels Fall First, A Mixed Bag Space Conflict - Early Access Watcher -
Disclosure: This game copy was bought by the reviewer.
Pros
- Large battles with up to 32 players on each team for both land and space battles
- Bots utilized for single player map selection and multiplayer mode to maintain feeling of bigger battles
- Great weapon variety and unique guns for each side
- A selection of customization options ranging from suits, weapons, vehicles and ships
- Map types from massive space stations that must be breached to a last stand in a city district
Neutral
- Music can be rather repetitive due to the limited score, but what is on offer does provide for the setting
- Hitbox detection and latency concerns online due mainly to the higher count of bots
- Maps are huge in some cases, making the return delay between respawn and running back noticeable
- Graphics look dated (Unreal Engine 3) and some effects detract from the experience (bloom and unit sway can thankfully be turned off)
Negative
- No campaign: the single player is essential multiplayer
- Dead online community: averaging six every time I played
- AI: you either get bots shooting you accurately from 50 yards away (nothing wrong with that) or getting stuck in pathing boxes that lead to late game unit imbalance (not a good thing)
Final Verdict: I prefer Battlefront II (2006) to this, but the game isn't entirely bad. It is a mixed bag, but worth it during a decent Steam sale.
