Another Run Through Overgrown Ruins - Returnal #34
After the trials of getting through all 6 biomes, I figured I'd try a continued game run through biome 1, including a second visit to Phrike. I almost get him, but I picked up a malfunction that caused me damage every time I overload my weapon. And in a panic against cloakers I did it too many times (I forgot) and lost my Astronaut. Stupid.
But, at least now I know why biome 1 had items in the water and unreachable ledges. You can use the upgrades from the later biomes to reach them.
And I pick up an odd item - a piece of a sun decoration.
It was nice to be back in biome 1. I take it slow at first because I'm looking for story. But it doesn't take long for the room challenges to get me moving and fighting with my usual groove again.
I wasn't sure if Phrike would have another sun piece or if I would get more post-game story, so I paid him a visit, with the pylon gun. That was fun. Until I died.

6:36 Found a sun fragment
27:14 Pylon gun finally
40:30 Stupid Overload Malfunction
50:00 Trying Phrike
52:18 And I die
Update: I tried this again the next morning and got through successfully. It was still a bit of a close fight with Phrike, but I got him with a Rotgland Lobber. No more story there. Continuing on to Biome 2, it was another straight, good run - unfortunately when I was recording picking up the Sun fragment and starting the fight with Ixion, the game crashed. So that recording is gone. Luckily when I restarted the game it had suspended my cycle at the mountain portal, so I was able to continue back to Ixion and defeat him again. I also did very well in Biome 3, having a much better fight with Nemesis using a Carbine gun. After that my PS5 storage couldn't accept any more recordings, so I didn't record my successful Biome 4 run and 2nd defeat of Hyperion. Next up is finding the sun fragments in Biome 5 and 6.
Update2: I found the fragment easily enough in biome 5. But I missed an obscure secret in biome 6 so I went all the way to the boss again and didn't find anything. So I said screw it and looked up the true ending. It's about 70% consistent with how I understand things, but it's too artsy for me. I wanted to know about the alien world and what happened there, instead of an ending so vague. I mean everyone has circular inner struggles. And the ending just informs us a bit about Selene but not about what ultimately happened, leaving just platitudes. Despite that, I do more research and figure out where the final fragment is, and truly finish the game.
