Ant Attack, originally released for the Spectrum in 1983 by Sandy White and ported to the Commodore 64 in 1984, was published by Quicksilva. It was among the first isometric games to offer true 3D movement—forward/back, left/right, and importantly up/down—paving the way for the genre on personal computers

Set in the surreal, walled city of Antescher—a nod to M. C. Escher—the player chooses to control a boy or a girl and must navigate the maze-like landscape to rescue their partner from gigantic, aggressive ants . You can temporarily incapacitate ants by jumping on them or by using limited grenades—though grenades are risky if misused

After finding the captive, you must guide them safely out of the city—however, the rescued character trails your path with a short delay and can be left behind or caught if you're not cautious. Once successful, the game resets with higher difficulty and a different hostage location

This C64 conversion was programmed by Paul Fik and Mevlut Dinc, bringing the groundbreaking concept from Spectrum to Commodore hardware; it earned praise in Home Computing Weekly for its clear graphics and fast-paced gameplay—though sound remained sparse . Modern retrospectives highlight its dreamy, surreal aesthetic and lingering emotional pull, despite some clunky controls

Today, Ant Attack is remembered both for its inventive design and its role in shaping immersive, isometric environments in gaming’s early era.
