This is my mom's phone. She got tired of the lag in Gingerbread 2.3.6 -- and because Samsung have since abandoned the Galaxy W -- I told her I'd install a better Android version on it. This is my first time rooting a phone, but the guides at XDA made it easy.

I wanted a Jelly Bean OS without the custom tweaks for her. Fortunately, someone debuted an AOSP of it, recently. It didn't have Project Butter, but swiping between panes is fast enough. The only big problem I've encountered was the force-closing of Google Search. As it turns out, it only needed an update. Everything pretty much went smoothly from then on. Not too shabby for an initial build.

The ROM author(s) suggest using TWRP to facilitate the flashing, but I used ClockworkMod 6, which went fine.

Those of you who are curious about this release; here's a demo. It's a very good starting ROM for flashing newbies. References are located below.

The Galaxy W (Wonder) I8150 is Samsung's mid-range smartphone. It's powered by a 1.4 GHz Scorpion processor, consisting of 512 MB RAM, has both front- (0.3 MP) and back-facing (5 MP) cameras, and a 3.7-inch TFT capacitive display at 800x480 pixels (252.15 pixel density) to boot. Why Samsung chooses to ignore this device is uncertain. It does have a measly 1.7 GB internal storage, which could turn off buyers, but it can be expanded up to 32 GB via an external memory.
